I've had quite a few responses to the Coco Montoya performance. I've even  received a few checks. Thank you very much!

Last month I had a hard drive flake out on me and haven't quite fully recovered. If you have sent me an e-mail and I haven't responded please send it again. My spam filtering program started kicking out tons of e-mails that it should have let through. If you send me an e-mail you may be required to register. It's simple and only takes about 45 seconds. I have added  most of the e-mail addresses to my white-list, but I may have missed a  few.

I'm getting a little anxious about the Coco performance. Everywhere I go people are asking me about it.

I give them the scoop and they tell me they're coming. I also  tell them of the recent change in ticket sales procedure. No one seems to have a  problem with it. I appreciate your understanding regarding the pay in advance  policy.

<cough> if you've told me you're going to see Coco send the payment <cough> <cough>.

The contract has been signed and payment has been made to the  booking agency.

We've added quite a few names to the Acoustic Groove list over the past several  months so I thought I would give a brief history of what this is all  about.

The Acoustic Groove came into being about three years ago. The name came about a year after the concept. A friend of mine, Rex Fowler from New York called me one day three years ago and said he had a couple of music artists  passing through this area and he wanted to know if I had a place for them to  play. He told me that they wanted some people who actually listened to the  music. Before I could offer a few venue names he said "why don't you have them  play at your house and invite a few friends?" How good could these guys  be? They'll play in my house for a few friends.

At that time I had never heard of a House Concert. I asked Rex what they would need as far as money goes? I was shocked. No guarantee at  all.

Again I thought, "how good could these guys be?". Rex Fowler is one half of the music duo from the seventies called Aztec Two-Step. This guy knows music. He's been part of the industry for over 30 years and has had major label  contracts. “Ok, Rex, what's the deal here?”. “These two guys will blow you away.  They are on the road to Nashville to be part of a talent showcase and they would like to play their way down and back.” Rex went on to tell me that one of these guys had played at the last three Woodstocks with a band called "3". "3" had played center stage at the last two. I had actually heard of "3" and had heard some great reviews of their work. “The second guy,” he said, “has caught the attention of some major labels and Randy  Newman says he's of the best songwriters  and record makers he's heard in a very long time.” Hmmm... Randy Newman!
Rex goes on to say the guy has been playing some with
Norah  Jones. Hmmm... Norah Jones!  Bonnie Raitt was mentioned in some way too. I think Rex said he's one  of Bonnie Raitt's favorite artists.

Ok Rex, What are their names? Joey Eppard and Richard Julian. I told  him I would get them a room at the local inn and take up a $10 donation from each guest. I made a few calls and sent a few e-mails and the next thing I know I have about forty people heading to my house to listen to some real music.

Needless to say they both really did blow  us away. Richard has gone on to sign with a label and he co-writes songs with Norah Jones. I recently caught him on a Norah Jones special on TV.  Richard has played for us three times - once with Joey, once with Jenifer Jackson and once solo.

Joey is still playing with "3" and recently released a new cd.

I won’t go into details about each artist  that has played for us, but I can tell you that not one has been a  disappointment. In fact they have all been phenomenal

I'll probably forget a few, but here goes.

We had quite a few concerts at the house in the living room and dining rooms. We even had a few in the  backyard.

They grew quickly and more room was  needed. I decided I would talk with a few folks about having the concerts in their venues. The one thing I made clear was that the atmosphere had to remain up close and personal and the venue had to be a listening room environment.

My cousin Ronald came to a couple of house concerts and not long afterward called me and asked me to drop by his  house he had something he wanted me to see. I pulled into his driveway and saw  this rather unusual building in his backyard. It was a really cool .... let me see... country store-barnlike structure. It reminded me of pictures I had seen of juke joints from the forties and fifties. He came up to me and asked me what  I thought. What do you mean? What do I think? What do you think of having some  concerts here? I couldn't tell him what I really thought so I said sure, yeah  sure. I think he sensed that I didn't take him seriously  so he offered it's not done yet. Not done. It “ain't” even warm I thought. At best it's raw. He lead  me into this really cool looking johnny house-esque - juke joint - barn. Did I add johnny house-esque to the description? I think I did.

He talked about adding sound tiles and a sound board and carpet and windows and... wait a minute he's serious about this.

We drank a few beers and it suddenly dawned on me that this might really work. My wife would like it for sure. We wouldn't have to clean up the mess that a family of six can create, nearly as often, if we had the concerts there. I told Shannon and the first thing she said was that I was trying to get out of cleaning up as much. You see I would remove the furniture and I would clean the carpet and even paint the little scratches that somehow appear on the walls every few weeks. The house was never as clean  as it was the minutes prior to a house concert. Shannon, even though I told her  not to would prepare nice munchies for everyone. Later on folks just started bringing things for everyone to share.  Oh yeah back to the johnny house-esque building.

About a month later the building took on a personality of it's own. It was called The Juke Joint, The Twilight Zone,  The Boom Boom Room. The Music Room, but The Mojo Room stuck. We had lots of folks coming out to play on  Friday evenings. It was really cool.

Since then we have had some incredible talent play for us there and in other Acoustic Groove settings. Chris Duarte, Mel Melton, The Matt Hill Band, Fragment and many others have performed on the stage at the Mojo Room.

We’ll continue to have performances in various settings. House concerts, The Mojo Room, The North Theatre, The Gaslight Grille and other venues will be used for future performances.

The Acoustic Groove will continue to be committed to quality live performances in up close and personal, listening room settings.

The focus will always be on the artist and their art.
Thank you for making The Acoustic Groove a continuing  reality.
